drawingstupidmonsters said: Oh no what have I become. By the way it’s hard to tell if someone is calm when they just in a previous post said that were never calm, tell people to fuck off, and put posts in bold and all caps about how they don’t need to take shit from anyone.

(rolls eyes)

i am excitable over things but it comes across as really fucking shitty when people tell others to calm down during a normal exchange, just saying!

There’s one thing that I don’t get about this kind of exchange. say Person X says something with good intentions that makes Person Y feel upset. Person Y excercises their ‘right’ to put person X in their place and not take shit from them and responds harshly/strongly.

Which causes person X to feel offended beause they didn’t like person Y’s tone. They’re exercising their right to feel offended and not take shit from person Y, so they respond harslhy/strongly right back, which causes person Y to get even more offended and I think you see where this is going.

At one point somebody has to give or it’s just going to go around in circles. But when both sides have equally strong opinions/feelings on the matter, who ends up having the winning ‘right’?

Maybe I think a bit too hard about these things, but this has never been an easy decision for me.

well ideally if someone’s saying something with good intentions, they take the time to understand if they worded something wrongly! but if someone said something that’s awful with “good intentions”… that doesn’t really matter then???

no one really “wins” in this - if someone has a hurtful opinion, their tone doesn’t matter. if someone has a “Good intention” but their opinion is hurtful, that’s also no good

tone matters some, of course: I don’t think people should take bad tones until the other person is no longer respectful, in general (though sometimes I personally have my patience tied thin so that’s really hard to do in lengthy convos where one person is willfully ignorant)
